A crucial win after our poor performance the week previous against Aviv City and really good display to go with it too! FC Dynamo (previously known as USSR) have caused us a lot of problems over the years, a big team who like to pump the ball forward, who we did not beat last year.
A big thank you to Joey Spijer who went in goal for the first 30 minutes until Talia Trackman’s last minute find Ilay came to go in goal. The first half didn’t see Joey or Ilay need to make any real saves until the final 5 minutes of the half when Dynamo started to press for an equaliser.
We had earlier gone 1-0 up through a superb strike by Guile Meyer after the Russians gave away possession and Guile will be the first to tell you he could have had a hattrick at half time, as their defence could not deal with his forward runs. It was us who put the pressure on the Russian goal but a lot of saves and wide shots meant it was only 1-0 at half time.
Whilst not being a big goal threat, the Russians always looked dangerous from set pieces in the second half as we again were not clinical and missed chance after chance, Asher Goldberg, Eyal Cumartesi, Niv Gur and Dean Robinson all having great opportunities but not finding the net. However, an absolute stunning strike from captain of the day Niv smashed it home to make it 2-0 on 77 minutes.
5 minutes later from nothing the Russians won a penalty as David Garzon pulled down their player in the box, but debut goalkeeper Ilay saved it and we went on to win 2-0! A good performance but we must take more of our chances in order to win more games in this league.
