On Saturday we faced a new team in the league, FC Shikma, who replaced the exiled FC Netanya, and we didn’t really know what to expect of them. Nonetheless, we came out playing strong after 2 weeks pause to league action.

On the first half even though we played really well, looking solid, with some good opportunities and almost no shots to Javi Virkel in our goal, we couldn’t break the deadlock and went in at half-time with the scores level.

In the second half, a number of new players entered the fray and they immediately impacted on the game. By the 70th minute a great build up play by almost the entire team ended up with debutant Ilya Levyant scoring his first goal for the club.

Soon after a second goal killed off the game and effectively guaranteed the three points for us as Ilya found another debutant, Eyal Nidam, who glided past two defenders to score a fantastic goal.

The goal sparked celebrations from the Inter Blue bench in what was a much-needed but also well-deserved victory after a break in league action for the last two weekends.

As the season reaches its halfway point, the makeup of the squad has changed somewhat, with a number of regular players leaving Israel to go back to their respective homelands.

It means the likes of Ilya and Eyal have been brought in to bolster the squad, alongside other mid-season signings, such as Jack Miller and Andy Alfie, the latter being the younger brother of former Inter Blue star Thomy.

The win keeps us in 11th place in the IFLI2 table after 12 games played but a win in our game in hand could potentially take us up to 7th depending on other teams' results.

Next week we take on Spartak Tel Aviv in the first game of the second round of fixtures.
